What Do These Pap Smear Test Results Indicate?

I have HPV 51, but negative pap results so far. My previous smear showed paraketosis, but my doctor told me it is nothing to worry about. The pap smear we repeated after 3 months because of my worries showed nothing, not even parakeratosis. Isn t that strange? I just hope it doesn t mean that the new results were false-negative...

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I think you have been terrified by the pap smear results. Parakeratosis is a type of keratinization (in other words, there is retention of nuclei in the stratum corneum).

This is completely normal for mucous membranes. This explains why your doctor was not worried. Good, you look after yourself, but no reason to get terrified at this point.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Albana Sejdini, General & Family Physician
