What Do The Second Trimester Scan About Septum And Cervix Suggest?

hi im aditi

im 14 weeks pregnant with a subseptate uterus. ( bicornuate )
i read that the chances of complications in delivery in such a case depends on the length of the septum.
how do i find out the length of the septum?
my cervical length is 3.7 cms. is that ok?
and is it possible that the uterus may join later on.?

Thank you for the question and thank you for visiting our site.

First of all, the uterine anomaly that you have will not correct during the pregnancy. The fact that you are 14 weeks now is very reassuring, and the initial risk of miscarriage is quickly passing. The main concern in pregnancies with uterine anomalies includes: cervical shortening / incompetence, preterm labor, malpresentation (baby is breech or butt down at the end), and fetal growth problems. So do not worry about the length of the septum, because it really does not matter and there is nothing you can do about it. The following should happen, though:

1. You need regular measurements of the cervix
2. You need regular / monthly scans of fetal growth
3. You need confirmation at each scan of fetal position

I hope that this helps and good luck!

Dr. Tim
