What Do Swollen Lymph Nodes On The Jaw And Neck Indicate?

I have enlarged lymph nodes along my jaw, front neck area, also a large one on the back of my neck just below my hairline. I had Graves disease and had radioactive iodine to kill it 2 years ago. I am having neck tenderness and discomfort when swallowing it feels like food is rubbing against something in my throat. Also on the outside in that area (right lower neck) there is a lump. Any ideas?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

You have a wide variety of symptoms. It could be something as simple as a throat infection with lymph nodes being produced because of the same reason. So, you could do some gargling a couple of times a day.

The lymph node on your neck below your hairline is probably due to some benign condition like dandruff. If the swallowing difficulty gets worse or persists, you could get it evaluated by your local clinician.

Difficulty in swallowing is also known as dysphagia.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pranav Balakrishnan
