What Do Pain And Swelling In The Mouth Indicate?

Within the past hour I noticed that my mouth was hurting. When I touched the outside of my mouth, I found that it was swollen on the right side, and also on the left side. Is this any cause for concern? I was thinking about applying ice and taking an antihistamine.

Hello,

Pain and swelling in mouth without any other signs can be most probably due to an allergic reaction. It can be due to any food that you have eaten, any medicine, any bug bites et cetera.

You should do ice packs over the swelling and also take antihistamine like Allegra, Levocetirizine et cetera.

In case if the swelling continue to increase or if there is swelling of tongue or symptoms like choking, swelling in throat, difficulty in swallowing then immediately consult an Emergency room and get checked.

A steroid shot can be given to relieve the symptoms faster. Keep a watch on the symptoms.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
