What Do Pain And Pressure In The Lower Abdomen Indicate?

I recently had a hysterectomy on 9/13/2017. I have been experiencing pain and pressure in my lower abdomen and rectum for the past few days, even though I am having bowel movements. It goes from a dull pain to a very sharp pain. I am also under the care of a Gastroenterologist and have been told that I have diverticulitis. What type of issue could this be?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I think it is due to diverticulitis. Treatment of diverticulitis and diverticular disease can include high fiber diet, and anti-spasmodic drugs like Buscopan or Spasmex. To prevent diverticulitis you can eat flares include fruits and vegetables, legumes, and whole grains. You can avoid eating seeds, nuts, and corn.

Hope I have answered the question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
