What Do Pain And Burning Sensation In The Abdomen Indicate?

I am experiencing what I believe to be epigastric discomfort which is more of a localized pain and not a burning sensation. The discomfort is worse with exertion and after eating. OTC Zantac BID helps reduce the discomfort. Pain has no effect on breathing. I am way too sedentary and need to lose weight. What might this be?

Hi,

I have gone through your medical history carefully and understood your concerns.

Epigastric discomfort could be related to gastritis or bowel distension especially if you are also having constipation.

Sedentary life is making your bowels lazy, so it would be difficult to get appropriate bowel movement.

Apart OTC Zantac, I would recommend as following:
- take antacid and simethicone after eating
- have your meals regularly although trying to lose weight
- have more fiber rich foods (fruits, vegetables, whole grains, etc.)
- drink plenty of water
- take probiotics to stabilize intestinal flora

If still no improvement, should consult further with a gastroenterologist and run upper endoscopy to determine the right diagnosis.

Wish fast recovery.
