What Do My Blood Sugar Test Results Indicate?

Hi,Recently I have been diagnosed as type 2 diabetes. First visit fasting glucose was 6.8. I was told to go back again for oral glucose test and fasting glucose. Went back again for the result, it was 11 and the latter 7.5. On the same day itself for finger prick test it was 6.3. Am I classified type 2 and it is a very high reading? I have ask the doctor whether i am able not to take medicines first. He told me to come back again 3 months later to have hbac1 tested.

Hello there,
From your description I understand there is only one clear information that one day fasting reading was 6.8 mmol (122 mg) Now the OGTT (Oral glucose tolerance test) is the gold standard to know your diabetic status. I need to know the exact fasting value and 2 hours after glucose drink what was the value to tell you whether or not you are a diabetic.Currently assuming that fasting was 7.5 and post glucose was 11, I can tell you that you are a prediabetic which means you are at high risk of developing diabetes but not a diabetic yet. SO your doctor advised you to come back again in 3 months and do the HbA1c.
Till then do not ignore the problem and try to change your diet by reducing carbohydrate content of your meals, reducing sweets and sugars. Include exercise in your daily routine. This will help to control sugars and delay the onset of diabetes.
Even as a prediabetic you may benefit from some medicines like Metformin which can delay the onset of full blown diabetes.Do discuss with your physician about this drug the next time you visit.
Hope this helps.
Take care.
