What Do Itchy Rashes On The On The Legs Indicate?

I have had a very itchy red raised rash (started with big rash on my left thigh and seemed to spread to back and legs) with painful skin (like my nerves all of my body were tingling and painful at all times).....I went in to dr. on 9/27 and he was no help, just said it could have been something I ate and then gave me a corizone steroid shot...which did very little for me. I m itching so much that I m breaking any crusted over and healing areas. I tried cryotherapy and that just intensified my nerves so I could feel everything. I couldn t get into a dermatologist until nov 14th and almost ready to go to er just to get something done so I can sleep. Help!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello, my name is Dr.Dorina Gurabardhi. I understand your concern.
Some advices that I can give to you are :
-Try calamine lotion
-Apply hydrocortisone cream 4 times a day until the itch is gone.
-Do not scratch the rash
-Try cold compresses
-Keep the area cool and moist.Stay out of the sun.
-Wear cotton clothing. Do not wear wool and synthetic fabrics next to your skin.
-Use gentle soaps, such as Basis, Cetaphil, Dove, or Oil of Olay, and use as little soap as possible. Do not use deodorant soaps.
-Wash your clothes with a mild soap, rather than a detergent. Rinse twice to remove all traces of the soap. Do not use strong detergents.
-Do not let the skin become too dry.
Hope my answer was helpful, if you have any other questions I'll be glad to help, thanks!
