Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Do Granularity, Friability And Erythema Of Mucosa Mean?
I have had an endoscopy and localized granularity, friability and erythema of the mucosa was noted in the stomach. (As an aside, I have Barrettt s Esophagus) Biopsies were taken. Can you explain what granularity, friability and erythemna of the mucosa mean? What is the danger? What is the treatment?
Hello and welcome to HCM, The greatest risk in Barret's esophagus is that of development of adenocarcinoma of esophagus. A normal mucosa appears smooth without any granularity, friability or excessive erythema. Thus, presence of all these features on endoscopy raises the suspicion of malignancy and biopsies are taken to rule out possibility of malignancy. Please wait for the histopathology report and further course of action will depend on the histopathology report.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
