What Do Blisters Between The Toes Indicate?

My husband had what appeared to be 2 small blisters between 2 of his toes. He busted them and then soaked in Epson salt water. That seemed to alleviate some of his pain. He states that it is very painful and extremely itchy. We live in the country and have experienced poison oak. This does not seem to be what we have formally experienced with poison oak. One of the blisters is now dark colored and very hard with a little blood seeping from it. There is also some swelling. It appears to be getting angrier looking.
