What Do A Pressure And Soreness At The Lower Spine Indicate?

My 98 yr old mother has a pressure sore near the bottom of her spine. She is not bedridden but her spine sticks out due to Osteoporosis and chaffes. The sore is open and about a centimetre in diameter. I have applied fucidin and a gauze bandage...is this okay until she sees her family doctor?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

A pressure could be due to decreased blood circulation which is usually caused by immobilization and bed ridden.other risk factors include diabetes, hypertension, obesity, smoking. To prevent infection you can apply the ointment that you mentioned daily with dressing. Also watch for signs of infection like fever, malaise, pus etc.If you have further queries I'm happy to help you.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
