What Could Sudden Lowering Of BP With Hot Flashes Suggest?

62 yr old male, at night I experience what appears to be hot flashes and my BP goes from 120/70 to 158/85, this generally awakens me during the night. I can feel this coming on, starting at my feet going to the top of my head. Generally only lasting a few minutes.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Considering your gender, and having hot flashes with increased blood pressure, that is indicating possible thyroid problems. For this, I advise to run thyroid function test to rule it out.

Next, cardio-vascular events including those transitory should be also ruled out through:
- ECG
- echocardiogram
- stress test

Lipid profile testing and Doppler of blood vessels in the neck are necessary to rule out atherosclerosis.
You should schedule an appointment with your cardiologist to have the tests done as soon as possible.
Hope it was of help!
