What Could Recurring Red, Raised Boil Like Bumps On Upper Thigh Indicate?

Hi, I ve had these boil type bumps (red, raised a bit on the skin, but deep and round under). They start off very sore to the touch. They started to appear 6-9 months ago. Usually just one will appear and go away in about a week. They have shown up mostly on my upper thighs. I have two now - one on the back of my leg/just at the end of my calf muscle. The other around my shoulder. I m a 52 year old white female, in good health, no medications, 5 9 , 149 lbs. No change in diet and or soaps, lotions, etc. I d appreciate any info. I will make an appointment with a dermatologist, but know it can take 3-6 months for an appointment. Thank you

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of recurring red, raised boil like bumps on upper thigh which occurs due to hair follicle infection and bacterial infection which is leading to folliculitis. It could be due to fungal infection as well. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to wash these areas daily with lukewarm water and body wash containing salicylic acid twice a day and apply cream containing azelaic acid which is good for boil. You should maintain complete hygiene of that area. Take painkiller such as Ibuprofen. Apply topical antibacterial ointment. Take diet rich in multivitamins. If condition doesn't get well in a week then consult dermatologist for proper examination and treatment . Doctor may prescribe antibiotics like minocycline, and steroid ointment.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
