What Could Recurring Pain In Groin Area Radiating To Back Indicate?

I am having pain starting in my left groin area and finally leaves to my back. It is making me sick from the throbbing pain. I threw up everything I had in my stomach. I kept throwing up and could not think of taking a pain reliever. Finally, after throwing up till my muscles in my rib section hurt, I took a Tylenol 625 and it finally helped take the pain away. It came back a few hours later, and I quickly took another Tylenol and went to bed. I woke up about 7 AM feeling no pain, but as soon as I went to urinate I got the pain back to my back. Not in the groin area. I took another Tylenol and didn t have any pain until this evening at 7:00PM. Took another Tylenol to get rid of the pain in hopes not to get nauseated all over again. Do you think this could be me passing a Kidney stone? I had chills and also got waves of flushing feelings. I was told some years ago that I had a very small kidney stone, when I fell and hurt my side, they took a mri with some liquid stuff. I am now 68 years old, and have never had such pain. The only way to describe it is like having labor pains since it throbbed just like them. I have been drinking cranberry juice and lots of water, to see if it helps clear up my kidney, if it is a stone trying to pass. Please let me know if it is what I think it is?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

You are suffering from recurring pain in the groin area radiating to the back. You have a past history of having an MRI done that showed small kidney stones. You are suggested to get clinically examined by a GP or a urologist. Get urinalysis (C/S and R/E) done to detect UTI. UTI is commonly treated with a course of oral antibiotics and analgesics. Since you are throwing out, take anti emetics for relief and take care of your hygiene.

Get a repeat Imaging test done to detect any kidney stone that is causing you pain and discomfort. Get clinically evaluated so that treatment can be started. You may be recommended surgery if required. Avoid any type of addiction, alcohol, smoking, drugs, etc. Get treated at the earliest.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
