What Could Persistent Blocked Ear Post A Sky Dive Indicate?

Hi, I did a sky dive on Saturday from 15,000 feet, at first I had a really sharp pain in my ear, the pain went later that day but it feels blocked, I warmed some olive to room temperature last night and left it in for 10 mins, but it doesn t seem to be much better, I wouldn t usually be as concerned but I am travelling to india on Saturday and I really don t want to get to india and realise I have an ear infection or something?

Hi,

There are a number of possibilities but it is doubtful the olive oil will have an effect on them. There could be an infection, but an irritation or other blockage of the connection behind the drum to the throat (eustachion tube) is more common.

This predisposes to more problems with flying and air pressure changes. There could be a ruptured drum and certainly any abnormality with flying makes an ear drum rupture more likely. It's simple to take a look at it.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
