Hi,

According to your description there is a possibility of recurrent urinary tract infection. Urinary tract infection can present with increased frequency of micturition, burning micturition etc. Usually pus cells up to 0 to 4/hpf can be considered as normal. But as it is 4 to 6/hpf, with recurrent symptoms, better to get evaluated.

As she is not getting relief with random antibiotics, the possible steps that can help her are:
- Going for urine culture and sensitivity to find out the possible causative organism of the infection and its sensitivity to antibiotics.
- Sometimes vaginal infection can lead to recurrent urinary tract infections, so that has to be ruled out.
- If your daughter is married, both the partners to be treated simultaneously to prevent cross infections.
- Ultrasound can help in finding the factors like cystitis, pyelonephritis etc., which can present as recurrent urinary tract infections.
- General measures like taking plenty of water, three to four litres per day, using vaginal washes, etc., can help.
Please discuss these things with your doctor and follow her advice.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Sree Gouri S. R., OBGYN
