What Could Cause Abnormal Menstrual Bleed?

My daughter is newly married but has been on ortho trycycline for about 2 years. She is bleeding like she is on her period but just had her period two weeks ago. Should we go to the emergency room or something. All the doctors offices are closed now

Hi,

Ortho tricycle is a combined birth control pill. If she has been using it for two years without any problems and has developed a mid cycle bleeding, then it is definitely advisable to consult a gynecologist. It can be a one off episode due to an incidental reason - use of certain medications that increase the metabolism of hormones in the ingested pill can affect the body levels of hormones present in it. I hope your daughter has been able to get an appointment.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
