Hi, During pregnancy, under the effect of Prolactin hormone, the milk production starts, though in smaller amount initially. The produced blood flows in to the sacs which are present in the areola (brown circular area under the nipples). Since there is no outflow to this milk, these sacs become turgid and show under the skin of areola as tubercles. These are known as Montgomery s tubercles. This is a normal phenomenon during pregnancy. If you squeeze these tubercles, the milk will spurt through the nipples.
