What Could Bumps On Vagina Suggest?

I recently noticed a bump on my vagina while showering. This seems to have appeared from nowhere as I recently had my period a week ago and there was nothing there. Taking a further examination it seems to be 4 long white-grey like growths extending out of my vagina. They are not painful or anything, just feel them from touch. I got a fright first thinking it was a worm! But it looks like excessive skin flap. My discharge is normal and all else seems ok. What could this possibly be as it just came from nowhere?

Hello,

You noticed a bump coming out of your vagina. It is not painful or itchy. Your vaginal discharge is normal. Your symptoms are suggestive of vaginal skin tags, that are harmless unless scratched. You can have them removed by your doctor surgically or with a laser. It can also be caused by vaginal or vulvar cysts or ingrown hairs.

If you have cysts, take warm baths several times a day for a few days. That may help the cysts drain else it has to get drained in ER if required. Do not wear clothing that rubs and chafes your vulva. Wear cotton underwear. The symptoms should go away if not get STD test done. You will be treated with antibiotics and antivirals if tests for STIs come normal. Stay away from addictions if any. Take care of your hygiene.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
