What Could Be This Stabbing And Prickly Pain In The Neck That Appears Randomly ?

my question is about my neck...I have very painful 'prickly, stabbing' pain (like a needle stab in one place) that I am scratching and applying ice to sooth. it comes on randomly day or evening lasting for about 45mins 2-3 times a day. no rash, no bumps, no skin discoloration at all. been to my doctor...he's stumped. It's been going on for 3 months and getting difficult to get a full nights sleep.

Hi there.

Your symptoms correlate to cervical spondylitis along with radiculopathy. .... meaning degeneration of the bones o the neck and pressure on the adjoining nerve roots. The stabbing pain is caused by nerve root pressure.

Treatment :
Xray of the neck region.
Short wave diathermy to painful part by a physiotherapist.
A good muscle relaxant and anti inflammatory like nucoxia MR.
A good nerotropic like pregablin.

I think this should suffice.
If all this does not relieve symptoms in about a week then you might have to go for a MRI .

I hope my advice has helped.
Good luck
