Sudden and unexpected vertigo which resolves quickly can sometimes be a premonitory sign of what is technically referred to as VERTEBROBASILAR INSUFFICIENCY (i.e. stroke). If this is what happened then, you suffered what we call a TIA (transient ischemic attack). Others refer to this as a "mini-stroke". Of course, there are other possibilities for what happened. I only give you this one to think about as it is the most important reason for you to get checked by either your doctor or better yet, a neurologist who will find out more information from you and decide whether in fact, this is what happened or something else was to blame. You should do this soon. TIA's usually don't happen a 2nd or 3rd time before an actual stroke sets in. Best to you.
