What Could Be The Reason For Fever And ESR 150?

Dr, one of my colleage is not feeling well and having 1 degree fever for last 2 weeks. He is 78 years old. He had a history of cancer which was recovered 5 years ago. Now he did the medical check up. Counts are ok but the ESR is 150. Why is it so?

E S R or erythrocyte sedimentation rate , it is very high ( 2-10 mm 1st hour) , such high level may be due to these possibilities , these includes.
1 Tuberculosis , this is the most common cause of such very high E SR .
2 Bronchiectasis is the another most common cause .
3 Hiv positive is another such cause .
Please don't mind but here I want to tell you that any chronic or acute SEVERE INFECTION is the main cause of such high level of ES R.
In my opinion , as you mentioned that your friend were a case of carcinoma previously , so please consult a physician and get his opinion as in such type of cases physical as well as clinical examination is very important.
