What Could Be The Cause For Intense Vaginal Itching Not Cured With Creams With History Of Total Hysterectomy?

I am 58, postmenopausal, had a total hysterectomy approx. 2 years ago and am not on estrogen replacement. I have developed intense vaginal itching which is absolutely intolerable. I have tried monistat ovule and cream for vulvar area but they barely relieve it and just for a very short time. What could be the cause and is there anything I can do until I get in to my doctor?

Hi, thanks for using healthcare magic

Vaginal itching can be related to different possible causes such as: (1) yeast infection- this would normally be associated with white vaginal discharge

(2) reaction to soaps, creams, detergent, feminine sprays

(3)due to douching

If you also have a vaginal discharge it is likely an infection and your doctor can provide you with medication that would help.
If there is no discharge then it is likely related to a reaction to some chemical agent.

In the case of a reaction you should consider using unscented soaps/lotions/detergents. Use simple agents
Avoid douching
Keep the area clean.
Avoid any feminine sprays.

I hope this helps
