What Causes Weight Loss In A Hypertensive And Diabetic Elderly Female?
My 76 y/o mother is losing weight over the last year. About 25 lbs over a year. She is hypertensive, diabetic, had thyroid treated radioactively about 45 yrs ago. Takes med for all of the above and is well controlled. She did use a suplement (SYmmetry) for about 4 years prior to this january? What could be causing the wt loss?

It is quite concerning that she has lost so much weight at her age. Studies show those over 60 have better health and lower mortality when they are a little overweight on the charts. Symmetry puts out quite a few products and I am suspecting she might have taken one of their products that increases thermogenesis or an increase in metabolism.
There are oral supplements I have used with my elderly diabetic patients. You might consider putting her on one of those while watching her blood sugar closely and her normal meal intake. Assure she gets 8 glasses of water per day. Since you say everything else is "normal". I cannot offer further insight without knowing more about your mom, her diet and height/weight and usual weight.
