What Causes Weight Gain And Fatigue While On Contraceptive Pill?

Over the last 8 months Ive gained 30 lbs (really over 3 months feb-apr) . This was the first red flag along with constant fatigue, coldness, nausea, dizzyness and depression. Doctor did TSH , T3 and T2 labs, I was within normal range. After researching on my own, I decided to go off birth control. Within a week I felt completely different, my energy is back and my period which was getting longer and longer , 37 days on birth control, went back to my normal 28 day on the dot cycle. Is it possible that I have a slight hormonal imbalance? I read about estrogen dominance and how birth control can exaggerate that imbalance even more. How do I find out? And what else should I take into consideration? Thank you

Hi,
The symptoms you have described are side effects of hormonal contraceptive pills. Weight gain is one of the common side effect seen with these medications.
Now that you are feeling normal after stopping them, it's obvious that they are the side effects of the contraceptive pills.
If you want to dig further into hormonal imbalance, you should go for thorough investigations that measures hormones like estrogen, progesterone levels and also FSH,LH levels that are responsible for control of these hormones. I would recommend you to consult an endocrinologist for further evaluation in this line.
I hope the above information helps you. Thanks for writing into healthcaremagic. Have a wonderful day.
