What Causes Vomiting, Upper Abdominal Pain And Constipation?

Yes, Doctor....Monday, 12/14, I vomited suddenly for 14 hours; no diarrhea, no fever. Tuesday stayed in bed, felt better. Returned to work Wed, Thurs & Friday, Dec. 15th. Around 5:00 pm, I was aware of a slow pain in right upper abdomen. When I left work at 8pm, I was freezing cold, felt a bit better if I held the upper abdomen, turned up heater in car, put on parka, came home & went to bed. Husband gave me chewable Tums. I got some relief. Went to sleep, got up at 5 a.m. and have mild persistent pain still, all day. Took more chewable Tums, which seems to help. Have not had bowel movement since Sunday, 12/13. QUESTION: Should I be checked at Urgent Care? Should I be concerned? Should I take a laxative (Dulcalax) & see if that helps? Thank you for your time. Donna YYYY@YYYY

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Looking at your description I would advise you to take antiacidity medicine like pantoprazole or ranitidine group of drugs and domperidone or ondansatron with antacids for symptomatic relief from upper abdominal pain and vomiting. Since you are having constipation I would advise you to take Laxatives like liquid paraffin or lactulose.

In my opinion you should take lots of fluids, fresh fruits and vegetables with dietary fiber supplement to avoid constipation. You should take these medicines which is also available over the counter, if you don't get relief than you should go to urgent care for physical examination and further course of action.

Hope this answers your question please feel free to ask for follow up question I will be happy to help you.

Best wishes,
Dr. B R Hudda
