What Causes Vomiting And Excessive Sweating While Suffering From Oesophagus Spasms?

I was diagnosed with oesophagus spasms over a year ago after numerous tests. I have angina spray to use when symptoms arrive. Up till 6 weeks ago they had settled into a pattern of occurring every two weeks and sometimes 2 within a couple of days. Without the angina spray pain beings at bottom of ribs on both sides building into centre of chest. I experience nausea, vomiting, hot flushes and profuse sweating. I am in so much pain i feel i can neither stand sit or lie down. Without the spray i end up on my knees holding onto wall. Symptoms last approx 20 minutes. With the spray it sometimes goes very quickly with only generalised discomfort. Other times i experience most of the symptoms except vomiting. I am not convinced it is oesophagus spasms because I do not have problem swallowing food, althoughmost generally attacks occur up to half hour after eating. Two years ago i had my gall bladder removed and 4 marble sized gall stones. At the time of surgery a colonoscopy recealed i had diverticulitus as well, which isnt a problem now. I avoid eating seeds or rich food. I also generally for the oesophagus apasms avoid chocolates, caffeine and alcohol (i have never drunk very mych alcohol ). Six weeks ago i was fed up wuth tge attacks so i looked more closely at my food. I now drink lactose free milk and cheese, rye or spelt bread, i eat smaller quantities, and up to yesterday i had been attack free. I had eaten out. I ate bruscetta and two poached eggs without bread, but drank 2 cups of caffeine tea with normal milk. Within a half hour i had an attack, and the angina spray only stopped the vomiting although i dry reached. I have also had post traumatic stress and asked the doctor if i was having panic attacks, but because of results of tests he ruled this out. Also because over the previous 15 years before the attacks started i had not had a panic attck. Igot the post traumatic stress after one of my teenage daughter s were murdered. But the attacks began at the time nearing her killer s release. I have seen psychologists and generally are coping better than ever. I think the attacks could be because i do not have a gall bladder and that possibly over a couple of weeks enzymes or byproducts of food buildup in my system, which is why i was changing my eating habits. I am 84 kios, 167 cm tall. In the last couple of months i have lost 5 kilos, do aquafit classes 2-3 times a week, go for approximately 3walks per week. I am 57.

Hello,

You have a history of Choleycystectomy & also panic attacks. You are in the menopausal phase, hot flushes, profuse sweating, nausea or vomiting are symptoms of hormonal changes taking place in your body system. Menopause is a normal physiological process through which every woman has to pass. So, take it easy.

It looks like the menopausal symptoms trigger the panic attacks. Stay away from stress & relax. Take home made food, stay well hydrated, take soups & juice. Take berries & veggies. If diabetic keep blood sugar under control.

Exercise regularly & take adequate sleep. Stay away from addictions if any. Cut on caffeine, it triggers anxiety & restlessness, interferes with the digestion of food, causes insomnia, it may cause raises blood pressure & fast heart rate or arrhythmia, it may cause fatigue & increase the frequency of urination.

Take antacids & PPI'S for relieve, avoid constipation, avoid junk food. Since you are having Angina-like pain, visit ER & get physically examined, get investigations done to rule out CAD.

You need to get CBC, Urinalysis, ECG. Echocardiography, Stress tests, lipid profile done to stay on the safer side. Your treatment will depend upon the pathology detected. Maintain weight as per BMI.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
