What Causes Vertigo In An Elderly?

My boyfriend, age 69, the top of his head gets real hot, then, he blacks out, hits the floor. This has happened a few times with dizziness added to the hot feeling in the head. VA doctor said Vertigo. He is in hospital now. It happened again today, without dizziness. Just felt hot, blacked out, hit the floor, broke ankle, gash in head requiring staples. CAT scan shows nothing unusual in the brain. What can this be? Would a PET scan be better? He is on numerous meds from the VA.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms can be related to benign paroxysmal vertigo which is an issue of the inner ear. I suggest using Betahistine hydrochloride three times a day. I also suggest avoiding salt in the diet.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
