What Causes Vertigo In An Elderly Person?

My dad is 76 years old, he does not take any prescriptions. He has had vertigo for the past week. My mother said they were sitting at the kitchen table eating, and all of a sudden he starting falling forward. She caught him with her hand so his head would not hit the table and she said his body seemed limp. She shook him and then he opened his eyes and started eating again like nothing happened. He has never done this before. What could cause this, and what should we have him checked for???

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

First of all it's sad to know what your father had been going through lately. Based on the history you have shared, he needs to get neurologist review as soon as possible and he should also get CT scan of the brain to rule out any cerebellar stroke.

Meanwhile get his baseline tests also done and take ENT to consult as well.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
