What Causes Vaginal Bleeding With Large Blood Clots While On Paragard IUD?
Hi, I have had a paragard iud installed over a year ago. I was diagnosed with factor v Leiden four years ago, so my obgyn recommended paragard as a contraceptive due to the lack of hormones associated with it. In the past months, my blood clots passing with normal cycles have grown in size. And recently (10 days before my next period) I suddenly passed three blood clots. I currently am not taking blood thinners and haven t since I gave birth last January. Should I talk to my doctor about going back on blood thinners? Will that effect the iud? Or is this suddenly clotting probably just a one-off?
Irregular cycles, pain during cycles, heavy bleed and passage of blood clots are common side effects of IUDs. Don’t worry, have iron rich diet and keep watch for anemia. No need of thinners. If it escalates, visit your obstetrician to switch to some other method of contraception.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Ajeet Singh,
General & Family Physician
