What Causes Vaginal Bleeding With Abdominal Cramps After Menstruation?

I m scared I could be pregnant. I just got off my period about a week ago. I started bleeding yesterday. At first it was red then today it was brownish now it s red again. It s not the same as my period. But I ve been cramping too. I don t understand why this would be happening to me if I ve already had my period. I don t take birth control.

Hello,
Thank you for asking at HCM.

Bleeding a week after the periods is not always caused by pregnancy.
Sometimes some women bleed a week after normal menstruation which is the time of ovulation and this is minor bleeding for a couple of days.
1. If you are having heavier bleeding and longer than a couple of days I would recommend you to have a urinary pregnancy test. It will tell you if you are pregnant or not.
2. If you are pregnant than I would recommend you to see a doctor to make sure that the pregnancy is doing well and it is in the uterus (rule out ectopic pregnancy- out of the uterus)
3. If the pregnancy test comes out negative than you do not need to worry at the moment. Just repeat pregnancy test every 3-4 days for a week 10 days and if not positive than it is just irregular uterine bleeding.
4. If negative pregnancy tests repeatedly and not more bleeding than a usual period I would recommend you to keep a calendar of your bleeding days and see a doctor if you continue to be bleeding irregularly for a month.
5. If you are having heavier bleeding than a usual period you will need to see a doctor urgently to make sure you do not develop anemia.

Hope this is helpful to you and answers to you questions.

Best regards,

I find this answer helpful
