What Causes Vaginal Bleeding Between Periods?

Hey, I had my regular periods on the 25th of June and ended on 29th of June, although it started a day earlier with a little brown discharge ie on the 24th of June, but normal period after that. The thing worrying me is that after almost 9 days after my period ended, that is today, i am bleeding again, started with a big brown clot and now the blood is reddish brown in color. I had protected sex on the 2nd of july two days after my periods ended and took an ECP on the 3rd just to be on the safe side. What i need to know is what could be the reason of the bleeding again?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Irregular bleeding or Vaginal bleeding in between periods can occur due to uterine fibroids, cervical polyps, endometriosis, cervical inflammation. Stress, newer medications can also cause abnormal vaginal bleeding. I would suggest you to take a pelvic ultrasound to rule out any uterine or ovarian disorders.Any other cause of hormonal imbalance such as thyroid function test should also be done to rule out hypothyroidism.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
