What Causes Vaginal Bleeding After Intercourse?

I bled during intercourse and started my periods the same day. Although the date was 5 days later. I had sex again on 4th day and 6th day and nothing happened. But I found fresh blood coming again from vagina on 8th day suddenly. It was not heavy and 9th day and since after I am having dark brown discharge as if it's my 5th day of period. Today it's 11th day. I also had anal sex yesterday and there was this brown discharge; although my partner always use condom. I also went to doctor and went for Chlamydia test that came negative. I am not sure what is happening

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. Your vaginal bleeding could be due to hormonal imbalance, pelvic inflammation, cervix/endometrium dysplasia, cervicitis, endometriosis, adenomyosis, polyp. Brown discharge suggests old endometrial tissue and stale blood. I would suggest to consult the gynecologist and undergo vaginal examination, reproductive hormone analysis, USG scan, PAP smear/colposcopy.

If needed, specific treatment will depend on the cause. Progesterone pill and tranexaemic acid can be used to reduce the bleeding. Take warm sitz bath with added betadine. Maintain proper pelvic hygiene. Avoid stress, take healthy diet, drink plenty of water and do regualr exercise.

Hope this may help you. Contact further if follow up needed.

Best regards,
Dr. Sagar
