What Causes Vaginal Bleeding After Intercourse?

Hi, Last night, my boyfriend and I were having sex and I started to bleed a lot. There was some pain but nothing to bad. He looked to see if something was wrong, he said it looked bruised? And possibly torn. He is not a doctor. Its not painful this morning (day after) feels a little swollen and there is some spotting. We both were checked in May, and both are clean (STIs and STDs), I have had a yeast infection before but this doesn t feel like that. Can a vagina bruise? If my vagina is tore, do I need stitches or will it heal its self? How long is the average until it is completely safe to have sex? Can the wall of my uterine be scraped? ( I don t know the proper term) Please and thank you

OBGYN, Maternal and Fetal Medicine 's  Response
Hi, I have gone through your question and understand your concerns. The bleeding after intercourse can be due to vaginal wall tear or some local lesions in cervix or vagina.
If there is bruising, then vaginal wall tear is likely.
The extent and severity of the tear can be assessed by proper examination. It can then be decided whether stitches are required.
I would suggest you to consult an OBGYN specialist to get properly examined and treated accordingly.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
Wishing you good health.
