What Causes Twitching In The Upper Lip Area?

Hi. I'm a 40 year old female with medical history including cholecystectomy, thyroidectomy secondary to thyroid cancer and a hysterectomy secondary to endometriosis/. I am healthy in regards to blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol but I am overweight, 5'7, 185#. I exercise regularly and eat a well balanced diet (although obviously consume too many calories). My question is......I have had twitching/quivering in my upper lip area off and on all day today. Should I be concerned?? Or is this just like eye twitching when your eyes are tired??

Endocrinologist 's  Response
Hi there,

Twitching around the lip area could be related to low calcium in the body. Since you have history of thyroidectomy, it is possible that parathyroid glands could have been damaged during the surgery. Parathyroid glands maintain normal calcium levels in the blood.

So I suggest you to see your treating Endocrinologist and tell him your symptoms. He'll then examine you and get relevant tests done, to find out the exact cause.

Hope I was able to help
