Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello, My name is Nicole nd I m 37 years old. When I woke up in the morning my tongue was swollen to the point where you could see the imprint of my teeth. It did hurt on both sides and I also had some pain on both sides of my throat. It hurt so bad that was not able to speak for half of the day. The swelling and all the pain is gone now but I was wondering what it could be. Thank you Nicki
I can understand your concern. It seems that you had an allergic reaction to some allergen that you are not aware about which caused the swelling of the tongue. As the day passed, your body overcame the reaction and you felt fine.
If you experience this again, you should take antihistamine such as Loratidine 10 mg (Lorfast).
However, if the reaction becomes frequent and you cannot pinpoint the allergen, then you should go for blood test for allergy that evaluates what allergen you are allergic to so that avoid the exposure in future.
I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HCM. Take care.
Best, Dr. Viraj Shah
