What Causes Tissue Like Discharge During Periods?

Hi, I am on birth control and I am starting my period for the first time in a while because I have been skipping it. Just now after returning from the gym and removing my tampon, I wiped and found a clear and red membrane like substance. I have not had sex so I am not sure what it could be.

Hi,

Menstruation is the shedding of the uterine endometrium following the hormonal changes during the period of menstrual cycle. Oestrogen and progesterone are the hormones responsible for all the symptoms occurring around the time of menstruation. Uterine endometrium is thickened for receiving the fertilized egg for implantation during each cycle.

Bleeding during menstruation is the shredding of the developed endometrium along with its arterioles. If the amount of blood is high, it may forms clot while comes out. The tissue you found might the clot which would be red cell clot with endometrial tissue.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
