What Causes Tiredness And Lack Of Energy In An Elderly Woman?

I am a 67 year old woman - still working - and I am tired all the time. Just weary and apathetic (which I was never before). I get plenty of sleep but feel I am just coping day by day. My partner died 4 years ago but I feel I have got to a stage where I am coping with that. Would just like some energy to enable me to start a new life

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and thank you for the question!
The most common reasons for feeling tired are:What you eat,How much you sleep and how much you exercise.Let me advice you to go for a balanced diet with fruits, vegetables and lean protein.Avoid caffeine and alcohol before bedtime,so you can sleep enough.Try to get 30 minutes of excercise at least four days a week,or try to relax through yoga or meditation. Also, you have to consider medical conditions such as:heart disease, arthritis, depression,or type 2 diabetes because when eldery people complain they are feeling tired, many doctors dismiss it as a normal part of growing older.
Best regards!
