What Causes Tingling Sensation And Swelling In The Balls Of The Feet?

Tingling under the 2nd 3rd metatarsal has developed into swelling of balls of feet, both sides, at night, dissipates quickly when I get out of bed. Sometimes some tingling all over the feet now. Skin around toes feels a little like a blister from the swelling too. I wear loose sandals all the time. There is no noticeable bunions or bumps. I have also had Chilblain, planter s warts, and some sort of red dot infections in the past.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

This indicates peripheral neuropathy which is a result of damage to your peripheral nerves. It often causes weakness, numbness and pain, usually in your hands and feet. It can also affect other areas of your body.

Treatment actually depends on the right cause. Most common causes are diabetes, alcoholism, inherited disorders or trauma and medicines. However, many other causes may also be seen so tests are required to identify the right one.

Till then, you can go for some general remedies: Avoid factors that may cause nerve damage, including repetitive motions, cramped positions, exposure to toxic chemicals, smoking and overindulging in alcohol. Also, take vitamin D supplemets and regulate blood sugar levels.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ivan R. Rommstein
