What Causes Tingling And Burning Sensation In The Arms Of The Elderly?

Sir. I have an ongoing tingling , sensation in my , right arm , from the shoulder to the wrist . It is often accompanied by a strange burning like feeling ,and , to a lessor extent ,weakness , in the right arm and hand . I am a 56 year old male , overweight . ( 242 lbs. ) .... ( 5 10 ) , on medication for hypertension and high blood levels of L.D.L. . I am out of shape , do not exercise , and I smoke ( 1 pkg. per day ) Can you please suggest , what this may possibly be indicative of, please ?Thank You Sir

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM team.

Understanding your concern. as per your query you have tingling and burning sensation in the arms ,which could be because of many reasons like nerve damage and decrease in blood supply due to injury,disease like multiple sclerosis or carpal tunnel syndrome .side effects of certain medicine and exposure to chemical can also cause such symptoms . You should properly stretch your arms before doing such activities. What you can do for now is stop activity which causes this sensation,give rest to your arm ,ice your arm for 10 mins twice daily and you can also take ibuprofen or acetaminopehn for pain .If this condition doesn't get better consult orthopedics surgeon ,who can order elecromyography ,MRI ,blood test and take medical history to find out the exact cause.
