What Causes Tickling In The Back Of Throat?

I get a tickle in the back off my throat every day and it causes a coughing fit so bad i usually vomit if i have ate within a few hours, otherwise its just a bad fit that leaves me gasping for air, this had been going on for about a month now. Any idea to what it may be ? Also i am a smoker but actually quit exactly 2 weeks ago, and haven't smoked since, but like i said this had been going on for about a month now.

Hello there,
Thank you for the question.
What you have described seems like a post nasal discharge, one of the commonest causes for cough. Either it could be allergic or may even be because of long smoking history. The best way is to take some steam inhalations 2-3 times per day. If I were t give you medicines I would like to start you on Levocetirizine 5 mg twice a day for a few days. However a thorough examination would help to know if there is any sinusitis involved which may also give you post nasal discharge. Do warm water with salt gargles in the morning. Do not resume smoking.
Hope this helps.
Take care.
