What Causes Throbbing Pain In The Calf After Taking Gabapentin?

Yes,I recently was placed on gabapentin for headaches, I have a VP shunt and have had 6 brain surgeries/revisions,my Neurologist thought this might help the headaches in her opinion caused by the placement of the shunt tubing against the nerve block at the base of the brain. However I have taken it for 4 days and my feet at the soles and my calf s have been throbbing and very soar is this or could this be a side effect of the medication and I have been dizzy and off balance more than usual.

Hello,

Gabapentin is known for its common side effects such as clumsiness, dizziness, loss of balance sensation, concentration problems, and depression.

Less common side effect is pain in peripheries of legs or arms and tremors. So you have to discontinue the drug totally and should seek advice from your doctor for alternative. Till then maintain your hydration with plenty of liquids as possible. Keep your BP, blood sugar under control. Avoid smoking/alcohol/any abuse substances if any.
