What Causes Thick White Sticky Substance At The Opening Of The Vagina?

I've been experiencing a thick pasty substance (that pretty much sticks to the inner opening of my vagina and I use a q-tip to scoop it and it seems to have a clumpy skin look to it...it's white and I dont experience itching or swelling or irritation but it seems to stick around the whole month! My husband and I are trying to conceive and I never get the clear slippery mucous the time I'm ovulating....it seems I wipe and nothing but when I use a mirror to see....I have the white paste on the inner opening! I'm 36 and and not sure what this is! Could it be preventing me from getting pregnant? I told my dr about it and she said its normal....but this isn't normal for me! Should I get a second opinion? Could I have candida overgrowth? Could I have hostile mucous? Please if you can provide any reassurance this isn't serious and that it's normal I'll feel ok, but until than am I wasting time trying to get pregnant when there could be an issue up there?

Hello
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
Since you dont have itching, swelling, redness or irritation or a foul smell, it is not an infective discharge.
But it should not be sticking around there the whole month !
During certain times, particularly before your periods, such discharge is common.
But aorund the time of ovulation, you should be having clear slippery mucus at least for a couple of days.
Could you upload a picture ?
It could be candida, but then you would have itching and symptoms.
Yes, it could be hostile mucus .
Have a swab and culture to know if that is so.
It could be hindering pregnancy, though its not common.
BUt it certainly is not normal for it to be present all through the month.
All the best.
Take care.
