What Causes Thick Clotted Menstrual Bleeding?

Hello, my 13 year old daughter has extremely thick clotted blood with period. She has used a tampon twice and both times has fainted - her skin turned extremely greenish and her lips became the color of her face (extremely pale); she had chills and clammy skin. I removed tampon which was very black and caused pain upon removal (it had been in for only 10 minutes). I put her in the bath and was surprised by the amount of clots and almost what looked like small tree branches (dark red in color) that came out from her. I apologize for being so graphic, but I am wondering if this combination of symptoms is cause for alarm. Perhaps she just panicked from the tampon and her blood pressure dropped. Perhaps this type of menstrual flow is normal - I ve never really had the opportunity to observe so closely before! Any thoughts?

Hello and welcome to HCM,
Passage of clots in menstrual blood is suggestive of polymenorrhea.
Polymenorrhea can lead to anemia due to excessive blood loss.
Paleness of skin, clammy skin, chills are suggestive of vaso-vagal syncome.
Vaso-vagal syncope can occur due to fall in blood pressure.
Tampon insertion can cause fall in blood pressure and syncope.
Thus, removal of tampon is the first step.
Since, there is associated fever, there is a possibility of infection.
Thus, a course of antibiotic may be required.
Further polymenorrhea needs to be managed by appropriate hormonal drugs.
In addition, anemia needs to be corrected.
A complete hemogram needs to done to know the type of anemia and thus management.

Thanks and take care
