What Causes The Feeling Of Something Stuck In The Throat And Throat Pain?

Hi, my son after drinking water yesterday complained that something s stuck in his throat, I made him eat plain bread so it would help in removing the stuck particle. This morning he is complaining of throat pain and unable to swallow saliva. Have given him honey.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I understand your concern.

Difficulty in swallowing liquids, if started recently, is due to possible throat infection (angina). Most probable cause could be virus or strep. Throat strep test is advised to rule this out.

Until you consult further with ENT specialist, I advise to:
- give him plenty of fluids
- gargle with warm water and salt
- give honey
- keep icy cubes/chips in the mouth to reduce inflammation
- take anti-inflammatory meds: ibuprofen, paracetamol, etc
- use oral anti-septic

If no improvement, and if fever starts, send to physician as prescription meds might be required.

Wish fast recovery.
