What Causes The Feeling Of Lump In The Throat?

for the last few days, I have been feeling as if i have a lump in my throat or a small golf ball stuck in my throat. Its not affecting my breathing, i feel no acid, no burning, no stomach problems. It comes and goes throughout the day - with no specific times being worse or better. Eating and drinking is not an issue. Its a feeling of having a lump in my throat - all the time - not just when i swallow. I smoke a fair bit - worried it could be cancer related even though i am only 24 yrs. Please advise what this could be.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that you are suffering from a condition known as Globus Pharyngeus in which there is a continuous feeling of something stuck in throat..
As you are a smoker it can be a cause for the symptoms as smoking is considered to be a symptom responsible for globus sensation in throat..
It is generally not related to caner..
I would suggest you to consult an ENT expert and get evaluated and he can also advise investigations like chest x ray, endoscopy, barium swallow, oesophageal manometry etc..
You should quit smoking as it can help in relieving the symptoms..
You can be advised symptomatic treatment as per the cause like antacids and omeprazole for acid reflux while if it is due to stress anti anxiety medications and behavioural coagntive therapy can help..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
