What Causes Swollen Painful Lips?

I have been having a problem with swollen painful lips for about a month. I have been using Combigan eye drops bid for glaucoma for a year. My doctor has diagnosed the swollen lips as angio edema and is treating it with prednisone which helps but I am still experiencing pain and swelling. Hello Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of swollen painful lips which could be due to angioedema and allergic reaction and autoimmune disease. Need not to worry. I would suggest you should not take continuous steroid intake i.e Prednisone. You should taper it off and then start after few days if symptoms reoccurs.

- Keep yourself hydrate by drinking plenty of water.

- Suck on ice pops.

- Avoid exposure to sunlight.

- Take vitamin B2 and niacin supplement.

If condition keeps on persisting then you should consult oral pathologist for proper examination and to rule out other systemic conditions. Doctor may start treatment accordingly and take antihistamine medications to prevent allergy.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
