What Causes Swollen Breasts After Placing An IUD?

Hi! I had my second mirena iud placed about 3 month ago and starting about 6 weeks ago my breasts have been becoming progressively more swollen and tender. I otherwise feel fine. Is this typical after placement of the mirena or could this be premenopause? I m 46 years old. I don t remember this happening after my first mirena...

Hello,
This is due to progesterone effect which is being released by MIRENA on a daily basis where heaviness and often soreness in breasts is felt. This can be subsided by increasing your daily water intake and diluting the effect.
