What Causes Swelling On The Tongue And Discomfort In The Throat?

My throat down along my windpipe feels like I am being strangled. Underneath my tongue seems swollen. No infection symtoms, fever, red throat. It is very uncomfortable. Feels like a lump in my throat before I might cry. I take thyroid meds and my levels are fine.

Hello,

Your symptoms can be due to an allergic reaction. Causing choking in the throat and swelling underneath the tongue. Thyroid swelling can also cause a problem but if levels are fine then it is probably an allergy. So my suggestion is to consult an emergency room and get evaluated. A clinical examination and a blood test can be done for confirmation. If needed an endoscopy can be done. For now, you can take anti-allergics like levocetirizine to relieve the symptoms. In case if it is an allergic reaction a steroid shot can also be given to reduce the symptoms.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
