What Causes Swelling Of Tonsils And Discomfort In Throat?

Hi. I have been experiencing this feeling in my throat for a little while. I went a day after I noticed it. The doctor couldn t find anything. No swollen tonsils, etc. The doctor had sent me to a doctor the next day for an endoscope. The doctor there said he couldn t see anything and he said it was probably just a scratch. He said if it went away in a few days, then I wouldn t have to see him again. As days passed, It feels like it was getting better.. but it still felt odd. Like, it would get unusually dry and I d have to drink a lot of water. It s been about 5 or 6 days and it still feels weird. I m most likely going to go back to the doctor who did the endoscope if it doesn t improve any more in the next few days. I read online that a scratched throat/esophagus can take up to 10 or 11 days to fully heal. I have no trouble breathing or swallowing.

Can understand your concern.

As per your query it seems you have a SORE THROAT..

It can be due to a number of reasons..
1.Cough and cold.
2.Tonsillitis.
3. Strep Throat.(Streptococcal bacteria infection)
4.Excessive smoking.
5.Allergy
6.Irritants in polluted air (If you are exposed to it).

If you do have cold along with sore throat antibiotics and painkiller( in order to allevite pain and discomfort) can be helpful..

But if it is not so other factors like smoking , allergies or pollutants in air has to be identified that what is causing you the discomfort..

I would suggest you to have a check over all these other factors also to find out the exact cause of sore throat..

I would advise you to do warm saline gargles..
You can take painkillers like Ibuprofen or Paracetamol (If you are not allergic to it) to get relieved if there is inflammation induced discomfort and cure your pain.

Avoid smoking or avoid exposure to any irritants if you are exposed to it..

If still the problem is not solved see an ENT specialist..
